Its Thursday....I have so been looking forward to Thursday's since joining this challenge.
Its week 6 and Christina and I chose the theme SOFT. I have to admit that what seemed like a simple task kinda felt a little difficult to me. As a matter of fact, Christina and I found out yesterday that our intentions for this week were the same thing! Both of our first thoughts were to shoot our little girls blankies. While Christina was successful....The closer I got to Ella's blankie, the more it looked like a worn out and dirty rug to me. So I had to kabosh that idea.
I love how Christina chose to put some texture in her shot. She has always been very good at adding texture, whereas I never mastered that skill. Besides the texture added in post processing, the texture of the blanket has a strong presence in the picture too. A soft "security" blankie is something a child never forgets! Knowing that it is Nadia's, I just look at it and find myself wondering so many things....When are the times Nadia feels she needs her blankie....Where she got it (as it looks handmade)...When she decided that this specific blankie was going to be "the one"...And so on. It leaves alot of room to figure out the feelings of what the blankie represents. I love an image that makes you think more, no matter what the subject.
So as I said, I found this to be kind of a trying theme since my one and only thought didn't work out for me. I didn't want to do the obvious...but the only other thing that kept sticking in my head was feathers. SOFT feathers. While shopping at Michael's the other day, I came across this feathered boa that was all wrapped up. It was SO SOFT and I thought, "I have to make this work..or I'm screwed." :0)
Thankfully, I am pretty satisfied with my shot for this week.
Looking forward to seeing everyone's dip's!

I like how the contrast each other in the same definition of the word.
ReplyDeleteOK, I always try to guess who did what before I read and I guessed wrong. I see feathers in Christina's house for some reason! I love the soft in both. I can see the dof in your feathers too which makes it way cool. (V's blanket is the same as Ella's. It's dirty and brown and "crunchy" as she calls it.)
ReplyDeleteooh, i just want to reach out and touch both of those! i guess it's a good thing you didn't put ella's blankie in the shot...doesn't sound like i would want to touch it ;). wonderful texture in both, making a great pair.
ReplyDeleteYou should be pretty darn satisfied with that shot! It's awesome. And I know exactly the feather boa you're talking about.:o)
ReplyDeleteI still think it's cool that we both had the same starting idea. N's blanket is still relativly new, so it hasn't had time to get too grimy yet! She does love it, but it's not her #1 security thing - that is, and I thing always will be, TedBear.
Great week, partner! Let me know what you're thinking of for next week!
Sorry to hear it was a tough week for you, but you certainly pulled it off. I love the soft feathers. so dainty.
ReplyDeletevery nice!!! i want to reach into my computer screen and feel both of those...the textures really pop! xo
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast of the two pictures. I love the feather boa's I always pick them up in the store because they feel so soft.
ReplyDeleteWell I don't think you can get any softer than little girls blankies. :) What wonderful shots together.
ReplyDeleteVery soft! Makes me want to curl up with a blanket! Great dof on both of these, love the added texture on first and the colors on the second.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely succeeded. Love both shots. The feathers look so very soft and I love that they are colorful. Awesome job.
ReplyDeleteBoa's + squishy soft wool = heaven :) Love!
ReplyDeleteOkay, it's official. I hearby dub thee Joanna, master of light. Seriously, the soft floaty featheriness of the whole shot is amazing. :)
ReplyDeleteThe feathers are gorgeous - really great shot.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are always so soft and lovely -- I love the feathers, they look like they could just float away!
ReplyDeletethis might be one of my fave macro photos of yours, joanna. it is so beautiful - the color and texture, it really is a nice contrast from nadia's blanket, too!
ReplyDeleteThe the macro shot of the feathers! I also love how the light is shining only on part of the picture, accenting the yeallow feathers. Did you use an overlay on this or did it just happen this way? Beautiful shot!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I've been starting to try to guess your word just by looking at the picture before reading anything. I loved the texture- that's what popped out at me. But BOTH textures look so soft and lovely in their own ways. =)
ReplyDeletei love both photos. great job ladies. the softness of the blanket speaks to my sick-self right now as i'm curled up under one of my favorites. the feathers, wow! great color and light. i just want to reach out and brush my fingers over them.
ReplyDeleteSUPER LOVE!
ReplyDeleteall the colors, cool and warm... and textures. I want to roll around in both shots :)
