The Elusive Dandelion

Finally, those beautiful weeds have popped up at my house (to my husbands dismay). Christina has been posting dandelions for a few weeks now and I have just been dying for one to pop up around here. Keith came home to mow the lawn yesterday and I found only 2 in our yard. Lots of yellow dandelions but only two of these fluffy beauties. Ella had already picked on and blew it away, so I told her, "Guard this dandelion so I can shoot it. Dont let Daddy mow over it!" So I ran inside, got my camera and plopped my butt down to start shooting.

They really are interesting little things with such beautiful delicateness to them. Of course Ella kept asking me, "Can I blow on it yet? Can I blow on it yet?" What I loved about this one was that it wasnt full. It had a little hole in it already from the wind blowing on it. I loved that it wasnt perfect.

BSM - The Dead of Winter

This is the most I've got around here to take pictures of when I am outside. I envy the red berries people come up with at this time of the year. Everything is cold and bare here. Today was close to 40 degrees though, and I didnt wear a coat. I could almost smell the scent of Spring being right around the corner. Could've been wishful thinking......

BSM - Thirsty

Oh, how I have been thirsty for some macro lately.

I love the delicateness of the details when you get up close. How fragile and crisp everything looks from such a short distance. How the 'big picture' isn't always the best way to look at a situation. Sometimes if you just peer in a little closer than normal, you find something spectacular...Something different....Something unexpected....Something beautiful.

BSM - Macro

Not quite in my own back yard, but if it was spring/summer it would have been. This whole winter season has brought my creativity down, down, down. That led me to the flower shop to get some flowers to shoot. Wishing I had some sunlight and greenery around right about now.....

BSM - Crazy Lady

I know some of you know what I mean when I say that it seems that when I am behind the camera, nothing much matters at the time but the subject I am looking at.

After I brought Ella to school one cold, cold day last week (I'm talking -10 degrees), I noticed these frosty snowflakes on top of my garbage bin outside the garage. What would you do? I ran inside, attached my macro lens to the camera, grabbed my tripod and ran back out. I knew once the sun came up and it was time to go get Ella from school, that these little treasures would be gone. What a weird neighbor I must have looked like standing there with my camera and tripod....shooting my garbage bin! You just know that these spiky little snowflakes were not on any one's mind if they saw me. You know they were thinking.....

There's that crazy lady who, while taking pictures of her daughter all the time, is rolling around in the dirt, laying in the middle of the road, hanging upside down from a tree and doing back flips. Now she's staring at her garbage bin?! What's next?

It's thier loss. They didnt get to enjoy the beauty of these fantastic little creations of nature up close like I did.

Random Shots

We have a busy weekend ahead of us. Ella is on her first sleepover at her cousin Jack's house. I am sure she is having tons of fun. She is going to stay over through the afternoon on Saturday so that we can start painting at our house. Thank you Aunty Crystal! :0)

The addition on our house is coming along. But by this point, I am so ready for it to be over. We are sleeping in the living room and it tastes like I am eating dust all the time now. Thankfully, it has been really beautiful outside so we can escape and get some fresh air. I think we have about 3 more weeks until it will be ready for my parents to move in.

It was time to clean out the random shots I have sitting in my folder. Man oh man am I am loving my 90mm this season.....

The Good News and the Bad News.....

We'll start with the bad news. I broke my Nikkor 55-200mm lens. Totally sucked! I had it on my camera and set it somewhere in the garage (stupid, I know). The next thing I knew, it was on the ground. But I didn't even notice until a day or two later that the lens was completely cracked in half. Thankfully, it was only my lens that broke and not my camera.

The good news? I have been wanting a macro lens for a long time now. My husband knew how distraught I was when my lens broke....so I begged and pleaded with him to let me get a new lens. It really only helps the matter that I have been getting paid better lately while filling in for a friend on maternity leave at work (and have almost completely paid our credit cards off). So I opted to buy a macro lens and decided I will replace my zoom lens another time. After much deliberation, and just in time for Spring flowers, I bought the Tamron 90mm macro lens

So what do you do when you first get a shiny new macro lens? You get some flowers and water drops, of course! I should thank my parents incompetent real estate agent for the beautiful Cyclamens. She sent them as an apology for nothing going right during the sale of their house. My parents could have cared less that they came, but I was thankful. They came the same day my lens arrived! :o)

Since I love me some water drops, I am calling this last shot my Best Shot.
