BSM - Random Shot

Good Morning Grumpy! I get such a kick out of how his eyes portray a grumpy old toad like you would see in a cartoon. I am just waiting to hear him say, "Ribbit".

Sometimes, She Is Just Too Much

My daughter absolutely cracks me up! She is an actress to the N'th degree. Pink eye and an ear infection has stricken her this week, but you would not know by the way she is acting. Thankfully, after just one day of eye drops and antibiotics, you wouldn't even know that she had a highly contagious eye infection that could spread like wildfire!

Stuck at home the other day, under quarantine basically, we managed to laugh until we peed our pants. And let me tell you, while pregnant, its not hard at all to do that....

She stuck on these glasses from a bathtub swimming puppy she got for Christmas. But the highlight was when she put the hat on to go with it. She sat there with this goofy face on while I could barely hold the camera still to take these pictures because I was laughing so hard. I don't know how she was not laughing....especially in the last shot. She KILLED me...Just KILLED me!

This distant glare off into space was all in the moment. I could not have asked for a better expression with these goofy glasses on! She is such a silly dork in this shot! :0) I just love her....

Why Dont They Listen?!

Mothers know best right? (Beware, ranting about to happen)

That goes for alot of situations....Mostly when our children don't listen to us. But in this case, I am talking about Pediatricians. Why don't they realize that we know when there is something wrong with our child....When something just doesn't seem right....When a cough is more than just a cold running it's course.....

Why don't they listen?

Ella's been sick going on 3 weeks now. Runny nose, croupy and phlegmy cough and a fever that comes back about every three days at 101 to 102 degrees. I decided to take her in on Christmas Eve to make sure that she was fine before the long weekend. I said to the doctor that I was worried about her lungs mostly because her cough was so bad. She listened. She found nothing. "Sounds all clear. Just a cold running it course", she said.

Why don't they listen?

A week later on New Years Eve, I took her in again (before the long weekend). This time to Urgent Care at 6pm (only opening), because her doctor wasn't in that day and no other doctor would "fit her in" if she wasn't a patient of theirs. Same symptoms...nothing got better. I stated my fears that I again was worried about her lungs. The doctor was in the room literally for 3 minutes. Took a listen. Again, found nothing. "Sounds all clear." This time, she prescribed the antibiotic Azithromiacin. Its a strong antibiotic, double dose the first day and then single dose for the next 4 days. I thought for sure this would kick it.

4 days later....Nothing had changed. The antibiotic should have done something by now. By this point, I am thinking over the last 3 weeks. Besides the runny nose, cough and reoccurring fever, every night she is up for at least an hour with an uncontrollable cough, has a drastic loss of appetite, energy level drops every couple of hours easily, and by the end of the day she is irritable and at her wits end. I know that I can't continue giving her Tylenol, antibiotics and her inhaler they provided like I have been.

So this past Monday, I made a same day appointment. Nothing had changed and the antibiotic was not doing a thing. I went armed with a list of all I had noticed in the last 3 weeks with her symptoms. I was determined for them to do something more than just take a listen! Her doctor then took a listen (grrr). This time, Ella happen to cough while the stethoscope was on her. The doctor had an "Ah-ha moment". She finally heard something! "Let's take a chest x-ray", she said.

Sure as sh*t.....My child is fighting Pneumonia!! WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN??

I think it is more like what they call "walking pneumonia" where it is a respiratory nuisance. But thank God that it hadn't gotten any worse than that or that she needed to be hospitalized!! (Melody, I have thought alot about you this past week. I cant imagine my baby being in the hospital all hooked up and stuff.) We got a prescription for the antibiotic Augmentin. 2 doses for 10 days and I can already tell a difference. No fever recently. The over night coughs have stopped and lessened during the day. Although the cough has remained, and will probably stick around for a while (per the Doc), there is a slight improvement.

All of this frustration could have been avoided if they just listened to me 3 weeks ago and did more than stick a stethoscope to her chest. The long nights up...the irritability on all parties involved in this house...hours at a time spent at the doctors office.....By the end of the last time I took her, I was spent. I was exhausted and literally could not take anymore information into my brain. I just wanted to shut down and hope that that was the last time I would have to take her in.

I know I am not a doctor, but I AM a mother. I know when something is not right with my child. I just think that should have counted for something sooner than it did.

BSM - I'm Watching You

We have been enjoying our bird feeder this season with many wonderful visitors from Robins, Cardinals and yellow Finches. As a matter of fact, we had a Robin family under our deck and a Cardinal family in a tree near our deck and both of the family's have been daily visitors of our bird feeder, babies and all. Ella gets so excited and when birds visit it she quietly whispers to me to hurry up and come see "Big Daddy Cardinal" on the deck.

Today though....the squirrel found the bird feeder. Four times he came back and four times we were eye to eye. He just stared at me as I slowly opened the screen door and took pictures of him. No fear! That little guy had no fear! I truly think I saw a bit of attitude in his glare too.

Well let me tell YOU Mr. Squirrel (as I put my hand on my hip and roll my head), I'm watching you, and you had better not come all up in my sh*t and act like you own the place! I'm way more partial to the birds than I am you....So you best step away from that bird feeder if you know whats good for you. Maybe if you are nice to me I will hang a peanut butter ball or something from a tree in the woods for you. This Mama just aint havin' it......

My 4 year old gives me enough attitude to last a life time. *sigh*

Random Shots

We have a busy weekend ahead of us. Ella is on her first sleepover at her cousin Jack's house. I am sure she is having tons of fun. She is going to stay over through the afternoon on Saturday so that we can start painting at our house. Thank you Aunty Crystal! :0)

The addition on our house is coming along. But by this point, I am so ready for it to be over. We are sleeping in the living room and it tastes like I am eating dust all the time now. Thankfully, it has been really beautiful outside so we can escape and get some fresh air. I think we have about 3 more weeks until it will be ready for my parents to move in.

It was time to clean out the random shots I have sitting in my folder. Man oh man am I am loving my 90mm this season.....

Your Highness.....

Funny how the lines between reality and fantasy can sometimes be blured....

Me: "C'mon sweetie, hurry up and get out of the car."
Ella: "Mama, I'm going as fast as I can. Its hard being a princess sometimes."

Budding Pen Pals....

What a bright and beautiful way to start the day! This painting is from the talented and adorable Nadia, the star of Momology.

It says, "To Ella, From Nadia: This is a picture of a clown to make you laugh."

Ella's always one to play along! She immediately got down on the floor and started laughing as she rolled back and forth.
After that, it took all I had to get her to sit down and let me take a picture of her with the painting. As I told Christina, she wanted me to fetch her watercolors right away so that she could start making something for Nadia.

It's on its way! :0)

BSM - Happiness, Love and Simplicity

It hasn't felt like that so much recently. For some reason I have been very irritable lately. Maybe it's the stress of me working extra hours, Keith working extra hours, the construction going on everyday at my house, or Ella going through a stage of sassy disobedience that seems like it will never end. I have no idea. But it is definitely a slump I need to get out of.

Mother's Day was perfect though. I was so happy. Every second of the day...I was happy. It has been so long since I truly lived in the moment. I didn't care what had happened the hour before or what was happening the hour after. It wasnt complicated. I didnt have 10 different things on my mind that I needed to get done. I laughed with Ella all day instead of disciplining her. Everything she did I thought was amazing...as if I had never seen it before. I was clear and refreshed. Keith and I joked around instead of being angry with each other. I had so much gratitude for where I am in life and who I have in my life.

I felt HAPPY. I felt LOVED. It was SIMPLE.

The Concert

Tuesday night I went to the Elton John/Billy Joel concert with my Mom. I had been waiting for this concert for months and was so excited to go. They did not disappoint either! Initially, I was really excited to see Elton John more than Billy Joel. Though I love their music both the same, Elton John is just more iconic. Never the less, I was thrilled when I heard they were coming back in concert together again. I thought for sure the one time they had done it before would be it....and I never went to one of those concerts.

So right when the tickets went on sale one Saturday morning back in January, I was online and ready to purchase....I was willing to pay any price!

One thing that started the concert out right was that they were on time! I have been to so many concerts where they start at least a half hour late. I saw Prince in concert and he was 1.5 hours late. I was pissed. Not this time. It was so great we only had to sit there 10 minutes before they came on stage. When they came out, they sat down and played a few songs together.

DSC_9053
We had FANTASTIC seats! We were just diagonal to the stage. Had we been anymore to the side of the stage, our seats would have been obstructed. Had we been anymore head on to the stage we would have been further away. They were perfect.

DSC_8856
I had gone to the Celine Dion concert back in January and did not bring my camera because I thought it would get confiscated at the door and I was not willing to take the chance of parting with it. Man was I upset when they barely even checked my big huge Mama size bag. And then of course every single person in the stadium had a camera and I was jonesing. So for this concert, I was taking my camera. As we got to the security doors, the guy scanned my bag slightly but also felt the bottom of it and asked if I had any small children or ex-husbands in there! It was kinda weighty. I held my big mama bag close as I smiled and replied, "Nope."

DSC_8843
So as I said before, I was more excited to see Elton John than Billy Joel. After they played a few songs together, Billy left the stage and Elton played his part. Of course it was excellent. He could have cut back on making every song an instrumental at the end, but regardless, it was awesome to see him play.

But let me tell you....Billy Joel was much more of a performer than I had expected. Elton John is excellent. Let me get that out in the open right away. But Elton only performed while sitting at his piano then stood up to wave and say thank you between songs. Billy played at the piano and then the piano went away and he danced and sang with a guitar or microphone. He also talked to the audience and made jokes. He was fantastic.

After they each played on their own, they played together again for the encores. It was just so great to get to see two of my favorite performers in concert together. Every song you knew and every song was a favorite. It was a wonderful 3.5 hours (with no intermission) concert that was totally worth the money.

I got a kick out of this photo and just had to post it. What is going on in the bottom left corner? It just looks so out of placed and almost Photoshoped. I swear that is how the photo came out though. So wierd!
